year back, the gift you gave,
the greatest I ever received,
of which I write this ode.
When the days are hard,
my heart asks
“why are you secretly happy?”
When you read suffering in the world
my mind asks
“what made you more empathetic?”
When you see happiness around
my eyes asks
“what makes you more happy for them?”
All to which, my answer goes,
The happy little corner in me
the greatest gift you gave me!
Happy birthday, my son!
